“Work Hard, Play Hard”

October 22, 2009 by

This cliche is all too commonly heard. However, I feel as if most people interject this saying when explaining why they bought their dream car, or moved into a 8,200 square foot abode.

For me, work hard play hard has applications (and implications) a few times a year – not just for a particular purchase. I speak with my mom several times a week; quarterly, the answer to her question, “So, what are you doing this weekend?” is “Oh, off to Sonoma Valley, CA with the Syracuse girls…”, or “Heading to Bald Head Island with all my closest friends in Raleigh…”.  After my mom heard responses like this 4 times a year (oh, I forgot: “Taking off to Hilton Head Island with 30 friends from Syracuse on our Annual Trip”), she finally said, “Boy, do I wish I lived in your era…!”.

Not only don’t I think that ANY Mom in the 60s or 70s went on ONE Girls’ Weekend in their entire adult career (especially if they had children)? Could I have survived? Not likely.

Could you have survived growing up in that era? Think about it.

I love playing hard… and I love working hard. It’s just in my blood.

PS – Hope Dave doesn’t get hate mail!
