“The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree…”

October 23, 2009 by Dave

We’ve all heard it as kids.  Sometimes it comes out of nowhere, while other times you know it’s coming.  But you cannot truly appreciate and enjoy it until you have children of your own…

Our daughter dances.  All the time.  She LOVES to dance, whether it’s at the dance studio, in the living room, or in the middle of the street.  Her hip-hop class is definitely making an impact – she has some moves that most college sophomores would envy.  I see her running around doing cartwheels, a hip-shimmy of some sort, and backbends and I can’t help but thinking “you are SO your mother’s daughter.”  And when our daughter sees a bug or a spider, I am 1000% certain that she and Kat share the same DNA.

The boys in the house can do the same.  My defining moment was at last year’s pre-school holiday show.  My son was singing away on stage, with his right hand in his pants the entire show.  The teacher tried on multiple occasions to “disengage” him but, to no avail, he won and the chuckles continued from the crowd.  With a tear in my eye, my only thought was “that’s my boy.”

Why does the baby dip all of his food in ketchup, just like his mom does?  Why is our oldest son obsessed with Soduko puzzles, just like his dad?  Why would the best compliment for me be “you are just like your dad?”  Why does Kat pull her strength and nurturing from her mom?  Dave’s humor and unimpeded emotions from his mom? Kat’s work ethic and integrity from her dad?  Some things will never be explained.  I guess the seed is planted early on.

How ’bout them apples?

Thank you both. True and funny. I read 1 Tag and texted Danielle to watch her email. Read 2 tags and can’t stop laughing and crying.
    So proud
