Great Places to Shop and Dine for those Local to Raleigh & Wake Forest

November 23, 2009 by

These following sites/stores are GREAT places to shop if you’re local to Raleigh and/or Wake Forest — whether for a gift, or to splurge on yourself. Also, they have a website, so if you’re not local, please feel free to peruse their sites!

The Lemon Tree (new store, site still being updated) – A MUST SEE if you live in Eastern Carolina! A close friend just opened this store, and I’ve purchased EVERY gift for October, November, and December birthdays at The Lemon Tree in Wake Forest. One stop shopping for every age group.

Zest Cafe & Home Art

Lily Mae’s

Casalinga – HANDS DOWN THE BEST PIZZA SOUTH OF NEW YORK. Enough said. It’s located in a strip center that you would NEVER imagine would host SUCH A GEM (Mini-City, on Capital Blvd, south of 540 but north of 440).  You must either TAKE out (no delivery) or dine in!

Bella Italia (2 locations: 1 in Wake Forest, 1 off of Durant) — Hands down the 2nd best pizza south of New York. Enough said.

Dos Taquitos – Although Fiesta Mexicana is closer to my home (see below), and open for lunch (which Dos Taquitos isn’t)… this restaurant is the BEST MEXICAN around. Their Steak Tacos are TO DIE FOR. The atmosphere is exciting for kids and adults (their bar is fun… and in the exterior room, they have a choo choo train suspended from the ceiling that circles the entire room. Check out some of the pictures on the site… it’s a great place to bring friends/family from out of town. I love their homemade salsa and chips too (favorite SPICY salsa). Check their hours; like I said, only open in the evenings. This is located on Creedmoor Road, about 1 mile north of Crabtree Valley Mall.

Fiesta Mexicana – Best Warm, Homemade Chips and Homemade (mild) Salsa… Best Quesadillas… and best “large” margarita (on the rocks, with salt, of course). This is a favorite place for our friends to meet with or without the kids on weeknights. Located near Kroger in Wakefield, as well as in Cary and Clayton. The staff is memorable, as well as a blast. (PS – they almost always have great coupons in those Coupon Mailers you get; I used to chuck this “junk mail” until I came across their coupons).

Zest Cafe & Home Art – Great place to meet up with friends for a glass of wine with lunch! Delectable menu items that suit any appetite.  Located on Six Forks and Strickland in North Raleigh. A must visit!

Gandalfo’s Deli – The closest we’ve come to a Long Island Bacon, Egg, and Cheese breakfast sandwich. Their Reuben’s are great, too! In same center near Kroger, in Wakefield.

From NY with Love – I’ve stopped in here a few times and have been pleased with the service (usually the Owner takes care of you; I believe he’s actually from Upstate New York), and is an inviting atmosphere for the kids.
