“Dishwasher Safe”

December 3, 2009 by

Okay, whatever, Dave. At first I didn’t even understand your “What is a dishwasher… a person or an appliance”. I think I get it now; do you mean you’re the dish washer? Funny. Not. I do every-flippin-other-thing-around here, anyway (as I duck).

Seriously, I admit it. I would rather friggin spend 39 minutes handwashing 122 dishes that lurk in the sink than empty the damn dishwasher.

Let’s start with the flippin’ sippy cups. What’s the thing-a-ma-jig called… the stopper, maybe? When you have 32 sippy cups, 32 unmatched tops, and 32 puzzle pieces of stoppers – shoot me for not being in the mood after MY day of work. “You’re hard day at the office?” Spare me. I know you work hard, but not nearly as hard as I (won’t bore you brutal details).

Oh, and those flippin’ newish ziploc-wanna-be-tupperware pieces? I’d rather kill a spider than organize the tupperware cabinet. If I don’t unload the dishwasher, I don’t have to see the cabinet. Make sense? I just pretend I’m too busy to not have gotten to it.

… And there’s the babysitter who — and we could walk in at 2 am; kids already sleeping for 6.5 hours– JUMPS UP and darts to the dishwasher, PRETENDING to have been emptying it for the past 2 hours. I wasn’t born yesterday, genius.

PS – Neither is that my actual sink, nor my actual kitchen walls or counter top, luckily!
PSS – Did I mention I’d still rather hand wash all those dishes with eczema-ridden, cracked, bleeding hands?

I got married so someone else could do the dishes. And I don’t mind reminding him of that.

I don’t know…the dishwasher is our best friend around here. We use it EVERY day. Load it up throughout the day, run it overnight, and then the kids unload it every morning before school, and before breakfast even. It is a required job for them…they take turns doing it for one week at a time. It is also their job to organize the ‘tupperware’ cabinet when it gets messy. They even help with the dishwasher loading throughout the day so that there is not a huge pile by dinner time. The kids are 11, 9, 7, and 3. They CAN do it…just teach them how! They’ve been doing this for the last three years.

I am in awe. I SOO want to weave these chores into their lives now, before it’s too late. I’m starting tonight. You have a serious well-oiled-machine going on over there!
