He Said: “Telling it Like it Is”

February 8, 2010 by Dave

You know when you walk down the road and you see the dude with the purple mohawk, or the girl dressed in black with all black make-up (and, for some reason, their skin is ALWAYS albino-white!), or, my favorite, the guy with earlobes the size of a silver dollar with what LOOKS like a silver dollar in the middle of each lobe?

I’m fairly certain that these folks’ “desires,” as my wife calls them, started in their late teens or at the very latest in their early twenties.  I am 100% certain that they did NOT think “Hey, I’m in my mid-thirties.  It’s about time I get that sleeve I’ve always wanted.”  It just doesn’t happen that way.  And no one thinks that way.  No one normal, for that matter.

Quick question – is this my payback for continually rewinding Megan Joy’s performances on last year’s American Idol?  Just asking…

I’ve seen pictures of people with horn implants, red contact lenses and almost any other thing that screwballs can think up.  I didn’t marry a piece of art (although at times – admittedly – I’ve said that I married a piece of work, and this post is only further proof).  If she wants to ruin herself, that’s her business.  I thought FOR SURE she talked about her “sleeve” just to get a rise out of me, and I can’t believe I’m even blogging about this!  However, if she wants to do something that her husband has ALREADY said would be completely unappealing to him, then there’s nothing I can do.  Except…

I’VE always wanted to go on a solo trip across the country, on a motorcycle, and visit each of the 48 continental states.  It would take the better part of 4 weeks to complete if I hit everything that I want to see.  Hmmm….my August looks pretty open!

I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but hubby’s right — I really think it stemmed from FIRST thinking Megan Joy looked ridic, and then thought there was something really cool about it. And, hey, she’s a mom, too. So, Dave — you weren’t rewinding Megan OVER AND OVER on TiVO b/c of her sleeve tat… but for some other reason?

Well…. I guess fair is fair, but there’s some weighing to be done on cost and time, with tats vs. month long trip. From which seems inevitable that you might come home with a tatoo…
That said, the trip sounds pretty cool!

  3. I believe that people think up ridiculous things to do to themselves at any age (a tattoo sleeve for one). I am really opposed to piercings and tattoos. I always wonder what the tattoo will look like if the person gains weight and when they inevitable wrinkle with old age. Yuck!

    Dave,
Great idea, I’m in for cruising across country with you. Kat, go for it, but they do sell tattoo sleeves that you could wear to see if you like it before being marked for “life”. Nick has one, he can let you borrow!

  6. your he said/she said posts are hilarious. well, if she’s gonna get the ink you might as well plan the trip… but somehow I sense this being used as banter and mock threats for the next several weeks.
