She Said: “Telling it Like it is”

February 8, 2010 by Kat

So, when in Breck on Girls’ Weekend, I think I shocked my conservative and liberal friends alike when I revealed, unprompted, my secret desires while in a hot tub (males: remove-head-from-gutter). Then, when revealing these same secret desires to a close friend this weekend (and several cocktails in), I asked if she thought I should tell the Mister. She thought posting it on the Blog would be the PERFECT, and most daring, solution. Ironically — and wouldn’t you freakin’ know — one of the two below surfaced in a conversation (NOT started by me or friend), and HE had some choice words. I didn’t let on that these were my secret wishes… I think I would have had to hitchhike home from Bald Head Island if I did.

So (Mom and Dad, you may want to stop reading here), here goes. And, yes. I’m completely serious. Ultra Conservative, pearl-wearing, Christian little me. Do you think I’ll do both? Just one? This year? Next? Hmmm…

FIRST (1st) TOTALLY-UNLIKE-ME-BUT-WANNA-DO-ANYWAY

IMPORTANT Notes for #1:

  • The below is used PURELY for illustration purposes; does not reflect what I want it to look like, but does give you a clue that I’m actually talking about.  Yep, a tattoo sleeve.
  • The scenes would include my children, some reference to their father  , my faith, my parents, and especially scenes from the 10 countries I spent time in when I was 20-21. They changed my life. Forever.

Addendum A:
Don’t worry,
Mom (since I KNOW you didn’t follow directions), I could opt for the below, instead (the options are endless):

Tee hee…

SECOND (2nd) TOTALLY-UNLIKE-ME-WANNA-DO-ANYWAY:

IMPORTANT Notes FOR #2:

  • Diamond stud would be MUCH more tiny than this (see, I’m even looking to save you money and stick to our budget, honey)
  • I will have applied powder cover up to matte the greasy nose
  • I will not ever wear these type of glasses, regardless of how in style they are

I say go for it! If the tattoo and nose ring is something you’ve always wanted, then make it happen!

What’s ironic… is that it’s a new thing! And, hubby’s right — I really think it stemmed from FIRST thinking Megan Joy looked ridic, and then thought there was something really cool about it. And, hey, she’s a mom, too! So, Dave — you weren’t rewinding Megan OVER AND OVER on TiVO b/c of her sleeve tat… but for something else?

Thanks for stopping by… returning the favor and have to admit I too want a Tatoo!
I want the japanese symbol for peace at the base of my neck. Think it’s cool and it may be the ONLY WAY I ever get any! LOL!

You asked about Blogger Boot Camp in Baltimore… since it’s only 20 minutes away I am thinking I will go.
Guess I should get on that and sign up now, right?

Love the girl/guy sides… not too sure I WANT to know HeMan Hubby’s view on things all the time, but once in a while it could be… alright:)

Although I have no problem with nose piercings, what I can’t get past is the thought of one when I have a cold. Or allergies. Um, gross.

And I NEVER wanted a tatoo when I was younger, but since I hit 39ish? Been wanting a small one. Not a sleeve, however. But that’s just me. I admire many extremely artistic tatoos in my line of work (muscular therapy).

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I am paranoid of needles (I guess you could call it a phobia) so I don’t think I could ever get a tattoo. I’ve never wanted one, but on that same note, I don’t have a problem with them as I see it as a form of expression. My sister has many tattoos and some large ones as well. For the most part she is happy with what she has, but there is one she regrets…she talks about having it removed, but the process is expensive.
As for the nose piercing, while it’s not my thing necessarily (I don’t think I could pull it off) I have seen some really cute ones (like the Miley Cyrus). I think (just personal opinion) if kept small and delicate, they can look really feminine.

      Kat Reply:

That is what I’d be striving for… so small and delicate that you CAN BARELY even notice it’s there. Believe me… this is probably the most SHOCKING post to date, as my family and friends would see it. This is sooooo out of my character, it’s not even funny! And, the chances of me even really doing it… pretty slim, I bet!

Hi!! thanks so much for stopping by my blog and posting a comment~ To answer your question you asked on my blog, No, I won’t be going to the Baltimore Bloggy Boot camp. :(

Btw, I think your blog is amazing~!! Funny, witty and “telling it as it is!” You know what, if you wanna go for a nose pierce, why not? ^_^ I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo of the chinese character for “love” but i’m just TOO scared of needles!! A few years back, I ended up getting a henna or a temporary tattoo of it! haha!! ^_^ yeah, I’m THAT scared of needles!

      Kat Reply:

I’m laughing (primarily at myself!!) b/c I didn’t think about the needles/pain part! Just the sexy factor. And, I pride myself on being astute. Ha!

      Kat Reply:

Thank you soooo much for your kind compliments! Means soo much! The henna tatoo thing is a GREAT idea too – how time consuming is it? I’m TERRIFIED of needles as well… don’t know why I’m seriously thinking this is a possibility?!?!?! Oyee Vey. Again, thanks for stopping by.. hope you come back!

    8. Love this post and I say if you wanna do it…do it! Sure it’s easy for me to say this b/c I have a back piece tattoo and am working on my sleeve but ya know. I also have been tossing around the idea of a nose piercing…I just like it, I do not care how old you are (and I’m 34). If you feel like these things are “you”, something you would be proud to show, then go for it.
Thanks for stopping by today. No I will not be going to Baltimore but I will be at the San Francisco one!

Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting on my site. Gotta love the peoples blogs you stumble across through SITS. I am unfortunately not going to get to go to any blogging conferences for a while. I work a full time job and already have my vacation planned out for the year. I SOOOOO wish I could though. Excited to keep reading…

I might consider the nose piercing but never a tattoo. (I didn’t know Miley Cyrus had one?) Good luck with both.

thanks for stopping by my blog. Hope you have a great day :)

Good luck with both?? Oh schnikes! Does this mean I’m officially on the wire for doing it?

Love your blog! So fun that both you and your husband write on it like you do. What great idea.

I had a fake nose ring when I was a teenager, but I cannot stand a stuffy nose, so I can’t imagine always having something in my nose.
Thanks for coming by my blog.

    12. Helene says:

Go for it! Why not?? I have such a low threshold for pain so I don’t think I could ever do the tattoo but I admire those ladies who can!!

BTW, you asked if I was going to Bloggy Boot Camp in Baltimore…I’m on the west coast so I’ll probably go to the one in SF!

Hey thanks for stopping by my blog! You have quite a nice one going on here…I will have to explore more later!

About Boot Camp…no, I live in Texas so sort of in-between them both and this is just for fun right now anyway. Maybe in the future though, when my blog makes me my first million, then I can afford to fly! ( I kid a lot )

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Wish I could make it to bloggy bootcamp, but I’m stuck in Chicago :(

I say you should do whatever you want! You don’t want to get old and regret never doing what you secretly have always wanted to do! My sister just turned 31 and got her nose pierced and she loves it.

I have a small sun tatoo that I got in Cancun when I was a senior in high school (13 years ago) but I want to get another one. The sun tatoo was on a whim, but this time I want to get a Dave Matthews Band tattoo (I am a BIG fan) and I want to actually think it out. I think that you should go for it!

I had a friend once describe me as a cautious rebel. That being said, I would probably opt for a temporary tat and a magnetic stud for the nose, just for shock value. Hmmmm…I am thinking April Fool’s now! heh.

I have one of each in my family. Ella Numera Una has a stud in her nose. She got it as a college freshman. Ella Numera Dos favors tatoos, but not as bit as these. She has 3, all small and artfully placed!

Oh I’m so a conservative, Christian, pearl-wearing chick too…but I have always been tempted by the thought of a possible nose piercing. haha. My mom always says that it’s the little bit of “hippy” she passed on to me.

I would stick to something temporary – like a wild hair color. At least that will grow back. My boss is an MD and he has told me stories of infections with tragic results in nose and tongue piercings!!! (I know I sound like your mother)

      [Reply]

      Kat Reply:

Actually, that’s a great idea! Meanwhile, I don’t think I would EVER do that (wild hair color?!?!?). How ironic that I’d actually consider something MUCH MORE EXTREME!!

First, I love your site. Second, it’s your body so I say go for it. You are much much braver than me. Once at the beach I made it as far as into the tattoo parlor and even picked out my tattoo but I couldn’t go through with it. I hate needles, pain, and I was to weirded out by the infectious disease training certificates I saw on the wall.

      [Reply]

      Kat Reply:

Don’t give me too much credit! I”m such a wimp with pain. And, I’m now stirring at realizing the infectious disease component.

thanks for your kind words about my site! I’m going to hop over to yours right now! Hubby recently told me that he is SOO opposed to it, it would be a direct insult if I went ahead with it (the sleeve, anyway)…

I can’t get over the fact that you can’t remove a tattoo. Like the way you can clothing. I can’t think of anything that I LOVED to wear 10 years ago that I love to wear now – and that is why I am so surprised that people can commit to getting tattoos. Oh, and then there is the pain. :)

thanks for visiting me earlier this week! I’m not going to Baltimore, although I’d love to. The whole ‘unemployed and having to be careful with finances’ bit :)

I LOVE this post, by the way. I totally want both as well. Although a couple of years ago, right before I made the plunge with the nose stud…I saw an old lady with one, and it just completely made me rethink. I decided maybe I was a little too old to get one…

      Now maybe I’ll rethink again!

OMG, I just told Joe that I want to get a nose stud (minuscule one) and maybe a little blue or purple dye streaked in one spot in my hair. Joe’s actually all for the nose stud and couldn’t care less about the hair (as long as it isn’t ALL blue). So funny…maybe it’s 4 kids in 4 years that does it to us?
