Letting the “Kat” out of the Bag

May 20, 2010 by Dave

As a norm, we wipe the house clean on Thursday evening in anticipation of the weekend.  Any leftover laundry gets folded, all of the toys make it to their “normal” hiding place and we do our best to declutter the kitchen.  Some Thursdays are better than others, and it usually depends on our Thursday night schedule.

Kat doesn’t know it yet, but her friends are taking her out Thursday night.  Some of them haven’t seen her since her mom passed, and want to get together with her as a group to spend some time with her.

I’m in a lose-lose situation here!  When do I tell her?  If I tell her Wednesday, then I ruin the surprise.  And let me tell you – this girl LOVES surprises.  If I tell her when I get home from work on Thursday, she’ll only have a few minutes to get ready.  Good for no one.

So I decided to tell her this way, via the blog, the morning of the surprise.  And why did I mention the “Thursday Clean” earlier in this post?  I tried to subtly say last night “hey, let’s try to do some cleaning tonight (Wednesday) so it won’t be too bad tomorrow (Thursday).”  That went over like a poop sandwich.

Have fun tonight babe!  Leave the house to me – I’ll take care of it tonight while you’re out boozing chilling with your friends.

    OH…. MY…. GAWD!!!

Are you DEAD DEAD DEAD SERIOUS?

I am all warm and fuzzy inside like you wouldn’t believe! Holy crud! Okay, I feel flippin HORRIBLE! I was wondering why you would say “let’s knock some of this out tonight… I’ll help you unpack (from FL, 5 weeks ago, ugh) so we don’t have too much to do tomorrow night”. I was all “UGH, WHY torture ourselves TWO nights in a row… 1 night a week is enough!” You totally succumb without a fight… NOW I FEEL HORRIBLE! And, I want to come back here after the preschool drop off to take care of the bomb of a house… but you begged me to meet you at the mall this afternoon (true story, BTW).

Meanwhile, Umm… When you say I LOVE surprises, that’s actually an UNDERSTATEMENT! I’m DYING to know more deets! Although MOST (all) think that I LOVE being the center of attention… it’s actually not the case. I used to… but now with EVERYONE having sooo many commitments and families of their own, all I think about is the inconvenience it must be to plan something for me. THANK you guys! Means sooo much!

Where are we going? How dressy? What time? Who’s coming? What will the temp be at 7 pm, 9 pm, and 12 am tonight? What is everyone else wearing? How many cars? Whose car am I in? How long have they been planning this? Did I ask where are we going yet? Whose bringing the roadies? What time should I start drinking from home?

    Love you all…. YIIPPPPEEEEE!!!
